Mo Malakoutian is Mayor of the City of Bellevue. He was elected to the City Council in November 2023, began his term in 2024, and was selected by his colleagues to serve as Deputy Mayor in 2024 and 2025, and Mayor in January 2026.

Before joining the Council, Mo served on the Bellevue Planning Commission from 2018 until his election, including a term as Chair. He immigrated to Washington from Iran in 2008 to earn a doctorate in structural engineering at the University of Washington and has lived in Bellevue since 2013.

Mo’s priorities include affordable housing, public safety, efficient transportation options, sustainability, and equity. He represents the Council on the Association of Washington Cities Large Cities Committee, the Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board, and the Greater Seattle Partners Executive Council.

Mo brings more than 20 years of experience across construction, engineering, academia, and the tech industry. He is Executive Director of the University of Washington Consulting and Business Development Center and serves on the board of Wellspring Family Services. In addition to his doctorate, he earned an MBA from UW’s Foster School of Business.
